This house was found on Craig’s List.
It is a shell that was built by a gentleman using an Internet
picture for reference.
There are some
repairs that will have to be made, since a cat was not very gentle with
it.Valerie is really
excited about the potential of this house. We will keep you up-dated as she begins her rehab!
Valerie has given the Lady Ashley her new coat of paint. I just love the colors she has chosen.
The house is a very soft green with a medium green trim. The porch is a darker green. The banisters are strips that she bought to replace the few
broken pieces
that were with the house originally. She extended the roof over the porch and used left over porch
poles from an earlier house. She also added the scallop trim above the porch for a nice
finishing touch.
An autumn
wreath was added to fill the front wall.
Here are close ups of the porch and the wreath.
The door was painted a deep pink for contrast.
She added a mail box made from a wood cutting and bell wire. The lights at the front door were made using beads and bell wire
also. There are examples on
the tips page.
A brass
knocker was added to the door and the red rose will be her trademark. She lived in Lancaster
for many years and the red rose is the symbol of the city. The wreath was made using dried flowers that had an autumn look.
It was built on a discarded wood circle.
This is the 3rd floor of the Lady Ashley. These are just temporary set-ups and can be changed as more
details are added. This floor was divided into 3 rooms using foam board for the
partitions. The floor in
the bathroom is a lovely piece of turquoise vinyl.
The room will be shown later with all the details added. The 2nd room will be a craft-family room.
The rug is upholstery fabric which looks like a low nap rug. Future plans for this room include a mini-dollhouse. A young boys bedroom will be made in the tower room.
This rug is a suede-like upholstery fabric.
The little throw rug is also upholstery fabric.
More details will make this room inviting.
The kitchen is shaping up.The first shot shows the left wall. The cupboard is ½ of a Michael’s hutch, which she painted
and
added little clear vinyl panes to the doors.
The furniture is Melissa and Doug. A small DollarTree piece with a breadbox and towels is next to the sink. The second shot shows the stair case. The two-tone painting really gives a nice accent to the stairs.T
he curtains were made from yellow percale fabric trimmed with
yellow lace. Small beads
finish the ends of the rods. The throw rugs (there is also one in front of the sink) are cut
from patterned wash cloths. The floor in this room was the original wood floor with a double coat of
shellac. She was very happy
with the result.
Here are the rooms on the
second floor. I love the bedroom! I can’t wait to see the finished room. She used a low nap fur for the rug. It looks like a lovely plush shag carpet any one would like to walk
barefoot on.
After drapes
and other accessories are added we will revisit this room.
The nursery has several details already added. Here is another texture rug. This one is a terry hand towel with raised blocks. It gives a sculpted look. The teddy bear on the wall was cut out from wall paper.
She has already added a lamp and some toys. These will be commented on later when the room is completed.
The hall way has a built in seat under the windows. The rug is a napped piece of upholster fabric.
The seat is upholstered in suede with matches the rug very well. The drapes are calico cotton. It all ties together very well.
The little throw rug just adds a bit contrast. The final tour of the house will go into all the details of each
room.
This is the lving room. It is the last
room to be finished with just the basic
furniture. The sheer
curtains and valance add an airy feel to the living room.
The furniture is made over pieces of Dollar Tree “stuff”. You can see the before and after on the
furniture page. Valerie will now begin to add the details to each room. The exterior is almost done also. The shingles have been added and the finishing touch on the tower
will complete it.
