This bedroom is another "pieced together" room.
The bed and chest are unpainted pieces we found in AC Moore.
I had to shorten the legs on the bed to bring it more into perspective.
The dresser is a DOLLAR TREE piece and the little night table is a “put together” piece.
The bed spread has stars on it.
I carried that theme into the chest and dresser
by using star sequins for trim on the chest and under the bead knobs on the dresser.
Those same stars trim the headboard that I added to the bed.

Still another “put together” bedroom, making use of odd pieces
and just painting them to match.
This bed, too, is one like I used for the blue set.
I added a different headboard and trimmed it with cut outs from white paper doilies.
I used that same trim on all the other pieces as well.

This bed was "made from scratch". This is Valerie's creation.
The headboard is made from the punch outs centers
from windows from one of our doll houses.
She glued them together with a brace across the back of the pieces.
The foot board is a fancy piece that was left after
some gingerbread trim was punched out.
We save all our wood scraps for just this reason.
Her bed spread and pillows are an embroidered edge soft fleece fabric
that we had from a close out sale at a nightgown manufacturing plant.
The throw across the bottom of the bed is
a lovely piece of fabric that looked like it had been crocheted.
It adds a very nice touch.

I'm sure many of you will recognize these Dollar Tree treasures.
We will refer back to these pieces as we show how we have refurbished them.

These are Valerie's refinished pieces that completed her bedroom.
The knobs were replaced with silver beads and separators of various sizes.
A silver braid trim was also added to the vanity.
She was very happy with the results she achieved using the black
finish.

This is my "made from scratch" bed.
The head board and foot board are left over shutters that we didn't use on a house.
I cut the shutters so I had a tall piece for the top and a short piece for the bottom.
You can just barely see the shutter effect in the foot board.
Lace made the skirt and a bold print made the bedspread.

This is the "before and after" that completed my bedroom.
I had to do some cutting and pasting to achieve the effect I wanted.
I cut off the mirror on the "before" vanity and
added it to the small chest for the first piece.
I then cut the legs off the portion of the vanity that remained a
nd glued it to another small chest. (see above)
I also added legs (taken from the "before" plaid couch below)
which made the armoire a little taller.  We really like the way the black made up.

This "made from scratch" bed also utilized fancy left over punch out pieces.
I did not put a foot board on this bed.
It is painted antique white with a little gold trim added.
I used lace with a bit of gold in it for the skirt.  The bed spread is brocade.

These three pieces finished the bedroom set.
I used little gold beads for the drawer knobs and added the same gold trim
I used on the bed to the tops of the pieces.

Valerie just dressed up these two beds.  The first one was completely done over.
She did not like the fabric on it when she bought it.
She used a pale blue print with a lace skirt.
|A lace afghan covers the foot of the bed.
The second bed did not have a bedspread.
Valerie picked up the blue flower in the skirt
and carried that theme into the bedspread.
A large flower appliqué was glued to the center for an added touch.

Here are other treatments of the DT furniture above.
On the first two Valerie just replace the knobs with sequins and red beads.
The last one was a project.
She actually removed the drawer fronts,
painted the dresser and drawers separately, and then reassembled it.
We would not suggest this as a remedy for refurbishing.
When she removed the drawer fronts, some of the wood from the dresser splintered off.
That then had to be sanded to make it level.

This furniture was just updated a little.
We always replace the little wooden knobs with beads.
This time I used gold glass beads.
The mirror was added and so were the little flower rub-ons.
The bed did not have any dressing.  I added the print skirt and pillow.
The spread is just a piece of pink cotton which I scalloped.  I
also added beads to the posts of the bed for an added little touch.

Here are several of the wooden pieces that were redone.
The first two were in really good shape
(the second one looks a little distorted cause the
vibration of the scanner moved it slightly).
All that was done to the first two was the addition of the butterflies.
They were cut out of some return address labels.
The last one needed a complete overhaul.
As you can see I'm no artist, but the overall effect in a little girl's room is not bad.
We did not strip, sand or in any way prepare the wood.
We just repainted with an off-white semi-gloss paint,
added gold bead knobs and very fine gold trim
around the top and bottom of the pieces.
I'm sure some one more talented could do a much better job.
