RITA'S
REBECCA

Here is a house I found on Craig’s list.
The shell was built by a talented gentleman
who used a picture
from the Internet to construct it.
It is a very large house and is constructed from solid wood.
I was very excited to start to refurbish this one.

I have painted the exterior and will be completing it floor by
floor
since it is already assembled.
I have already shingled the front roof.
I can’t get excited about shingling so I did it first to be done
with it.
This is a close-up of one of the dormer windows.
I used stained glass windows made from the book
Ed Sibbett, Jr.’s
Stained Glass Windows for hand coloring.
I also used a decorative trim on the front of the dormer.
Next I
will be finishing the third floor interior.

This is the 3rd floor with just basic furniture.
I divided the room using foam board.
Instead of the half-partitions most houses use, I made doorways
in the center.
The doorways
are created by using two smaller partitions against each eave.

For the young boy’s bedroom I used pressed foam for the floor.
The throw rugs are cuttings from washcloths.
There will be more details added later.
The stained glass window is outlined with gold braid as is the
dormer itself.
The next room is going to be a game-family room.
I used a lot of
odds and ends and just painted them all the same color.
I added the red seats and backs to the chairs
and the throw
pillows to the couch for accent.
The floor was painted and a large area rug added from a striped
piece of fabric.
Once the
games, book, lamps etc are added,
I think this will be a comfortable
room for the family.

I’m happy with what is starting in the bathroom.
I painted the walls and added tile to the lower portion.
The pink
tile that surrounds the stained glass window
and the top of the tile is
the same as the white tile.
I just reversed it so the white side shows instead of the pink.
The flooring is a bamboo place mat.
It was just an experiment, but I liked the result.
The bathmats are all washcloth cuttings.
We found lovely plush patterned washcloths in an outlet store for
$1.
You can get many throw
rugs from one cloth.

This is the second floor exterior.
The banisters have been added as have the lights along the door.
I used pressed strips to replace the broken banisters.
This is the interior of the second floor.
Individual rooms are below.

This is the Master bedroom.
I used cutting of plastic yardage to cover the windows in the
French door.
Notice I also
re-did the valances on the drapes.
I was not happy with the first ones.
I like the scalloped ones much better.
The furniture is repainted Dollar Tree stuff.
This is a very large room, but there are cuts in every wall
so it made
it difficult to arrange the furniture.

The nursery has a plush fur rug.
It is so soft and looks like and feels like a wonderful shag
carpet.
This is the first
we (Valerie and I) used fur and we were both very happy with the
results.
The furniture is
DT and the curtain fabric
was used on the changing table and in the
cradle and playpen.
The hall way is filled with odd pieces of furniture painted to
match.

The kitchen is furnished with Melissa and Doug furniture.
This is a nice large kitchen.
There are two hutches in this kitchen since Valerie had no room
in hers for one.
This house was built with very good wood.
The floor
is just painted with clear shellac and it looks wonderful.

This was the last room I had to finish.
It is a large room and adding accessories will really make it a
comfortable room.
The
furnishings are all Dollar Tree items.
It is one of our favorite haunts.
I am excited to be this far along and look forward
to adding the
final touches before mounting the house on a base and landscaping it.

Here is a picture of the first floor porch.
I used turquoise to accent the door, added the lights and
mailbox.
The house number
is my granddaughter birthday.
All of my house numbers reflect something about my children and
grandchildren.
It adds to
the personality of the house.
