RITA'S SHENANDOAH LOG CABIN

Here is the finished interior of the Log Cabin.
You are welcome to visit as I give you a quick "how to"
of some of the furnishings.

I will begin with the bathroom!

This is the completed bathroom.  Below are close-ups of the furniture and accessories.

The medicine cabinet above the sink is an odd piece of Dollar Tree stuff.
I added the shells for a beachy touch.  The bottles on the shelf are beads.
The mirror is actually one large pane and 2 little ones above to fill the door.

The sink has an added sea shell soap dish in the center.  A sequin makes the drain.
A lotion bottle is also on the sink.  A hand towel hung from an oval finding
and a wash cloth on the side completes the sink.
Atop the toilet are several bottles made from an assortment of beads.

The bathtub has a seashell soap dish as well.  Again I have added bead bottles.
A seashell flower arrangement sits on a corner of the tub.

The shelf was made from left over logs.
The tissue box on the second shelf is a wood cube
covered with the ends of address labels.
A bit of tissue glued to the top makes it a nice pop-up tissue box.
The towels are wash cloth cuttings.
The spare rolls of toilet tissue are dowels rolled in tissue paper.
Slit the tops and bottoms of the tissue to the dowel and glue down to finish.
The rug is cut from a washcloth.

Moving on to the bedroom!

This is a wall I inserted to give a little privacy in the bathroom.
A couple of shelves hold some green plants.
Two little angels and bead bottles grace the top of the wall.

Here are two views of the complete bedroom.
The tables were built from scratch and the lamps are beads.
All lamp and table views are pictured below.
The two large flower throw rugs on either side of the bed are appliqués.
The pillow is two appliqués stitched together and stuffed with a bit of cotton.
The throw on the foot of the bed is a piece of homespun-looking fabric.
(Just in case a little extra warmth is needed at night.)

The top of the cedar chest is covered with bead bottles,
a flower arrangement, some jewelry and a picture.
The doilies are lace cuttings.
The jewelry pieces are a ring (a very small gold "o" ring with a seed bead slipped on)
several beaded necklaces, two gold chains, two bracelets (large "O" rings) and
a star and cross brooch.
The picture is glued to a square "woodies" that was painted gold.
A small piece of triangular wood add to the back makes it stand perfectly.
On the chest is a large mirror.  It was made like the picture frame.
After gluing the mirror I added a gold trim for accent.
There is a hand mirror fashioned from a tiny glass mirror glued to a small cutting.
The hair brush is a piece of a pipe cleaner (cut flat on one side) and glued to flat toothpick.
A statue of Mary stands on a log shelf in the eave above the stairs.

A little bench made from left over "logs",
and covered with the same fabric as the bed spread,

is hidden behind the loft railing.
It gives the little guy a soft perch!!

Here are the lamps and tables that I made for use in the bedroom and living room.
The first picture was shot from the top so you could see the table tops.
I'm sure many of you will recognize the scrap punch out from windows.
All the legs and bases are left over logs.
Doilies are appliqué cuttings
The lamps are a combination of beads.
The lamp shades, of course, are creamer containers from our favorite restaurants.

My least favorite room of a house.  THE KITCHEN!!

These are two views of the kitchen area.
The table has a large bowl of beautiful red apples (large holly berries) on it.
The rug is a wash cloth cutting to which several rows of rick-rack were added.
I have since added food and water to the dogs bowls.
I used an actual dog food nugget that I smashed with a hammer.
I then added white glue to make it permanent.
For the water I added white glue to the bowl and finished it with a piece of clear plastic.

The shelf again is left over "logs".  I glued the pans to the sides.
Two bowls and wooden dishes (I thought appropriate for a cabin)  fill the top shelf.
The dishes on the bottom shelf are buttons; the glasses are cuttings from a clear straw.

My favorite room!!!

These are two views of the living room.
The large area rug is a wash cloth.
(We use lots of them especially for throw rugs.)
Trim was added to the perimeter and an appliqué to the center.
Here is a close-up of the pillows--not a very good picture.

I used the same fabric as the drapes.  An appliqué and gold trim finished them.
(I was so blessed to receive a whole box of appliqués from a friend.
It was one of the goodies she received when her sister died and
she generously shared them with me.)

The fire in the fireplace are flames printed from the Internet and glued to the back of logs
( tiny pieces of our crepe myrtle branches.)
The fireplace mantle has birthday candles is bead holders.
The little pictures are of our favorite entertainer Eddie Miles.

I have already described the lamps and tables.

The hutch in the corner holds a fine tea service.
There is an floral arrangement gracing the top.

I hope you enjoyed your brief tour of my "Serenity Retreat".
