RITA'S CAMBRIDGE INTERIOR

You can take a quick tour of the rooms I have just finished.
I will try and give some information as to what
I used and how some of the pieces were made or enhanced.

 The Dinning Room

 This is the dining area.
The hutch is from Michael’s and
the little cabinet is a DOLLAR TREE item.
I put padded seats on the chairs.
The centerpiece is assembled with a variety of dried flowers.

The Living Room

Here is a good shot of the living room.
The doilies on the couch and chairs are appliqué lace.
The pillows are all appliqués that I stitched together
 and stuffed softly with cotton.
The lamps are made from beads with creamer lamp shades.
I made the coffee table from odds and ends of
punch outs and left over cuttings.

This first picture is the corner that is not visible in a front shot.
Notice the little angel knick knack on the table under the window.
The second picture gives another view of the coffee table and the lamps.
The little horse on the table and the dolphin on the coffee table
were tiny wind chimes I found is “It’s a Buck”.

The Kitchen

The rugs on the floor of the kitchen are cut from wash cloths.

These are the left and right shots of the kitchen.
There is a pan of cookies on the stove and a pan of brownies on the table. |
They are pictured in tips. The clock above the refrigerator
was made by gluing a clock face to a woodsie.
To give it the glass effect, I used transparent
contact paper over the whole face.
 A gold trim finished it.

The right shot shows the cabinet with the enamel ware.
The cabinet above the sink is filled with button dishes,
straw glasses and earring back salt and pepper shakers.

This is a close up of the wall cabinet.
It is a DOLLAR TREE piece.
It was a hutch, but it was smaller than 1/12 scale,
so I turned it upside down and used it as a wall cabinet.
I was very happy with the result.  The side that doesn’t show has lavender button dishes,
two cups and bead cap bowls.

The Bathroom

Moving right along the bathroom is now finished.
The mirror, the toilet paper and the soap dish above the tub
are all Melissa and Doug bathroom accessories.
The bathmat is cut from a plush washcloth that I
picked up for $1.00 at an outlet store.
The candle on the back of the toilet is a bead with a string for the wick.
It is placed on a button base and surrounded with flowers.
The flocked starfish on the floor is just for fun.

These little gold wrought iron pieces are also DT finds.
The tissue box is made from a printie and of course,
all the little bottles are beads.
The rubber duck, who has lost his balance, is an eraser.

These shots of the bathroom wall are all decorated with buttons!!
The lights along side the mirror, the seashells above the tub
and the sea horses are buttons with the shank removed.

The Third and Second Floor Hallways

Here are two shots of the third floor hall.
This room and the sewing room were all one room in the kit.
I added the wall to get the extra room.
This hallway has become a little computer area.
It also reflects the bunnies that some one collects.
The little bunnies on the ledge are actually little ornaments
for an Easter tree that DOLLAR TREE offered.
The large bunny sitting in the chair is from Michael’s.
The chairs are refurbished DT items.
They can also be seen on the furniture page.
The little butterflies on the wall are just a whimsical touch.

Here is a close-up of the desk.  It too, is a DT item.
I just changed the knobs.  The desk lamp is again beads and wire.
The laptop computer is a cutting from household corner molding.
It makes a perfect open laptop.  The screensaver is a picture from the back of a calendar and the keys are black seed beads.
The space bar is made with a stroke of a magic marker.

This is the second story hall.
The rooms in this house were wonderful to work with.
They were more spacious than most others.
Here is a good shot of the window appliqués that I added.
Again the furniture is refurbished DT items.

The flower arrangement is a bit of greenery and
a pink tiny artificial flower in a gold bead.
The little knick knacks on the chest as well as on a little shelf on the wall
are all little blister pack items we found in, of course, DT.
Have you noticed we do a lot of shopping there?
The other chest also has some of these goodies on it also.

 The Master Bedroom

I will give a picture of the room first,
followed by one from the left and one from the right.

The ceiling light is a simple combination of beads.
The furniture is from DT.  I just repainted and added silver bead knobs.
The bed and the end tables are made from scratch items.
The bedside lamps are from Melissa and Doug.

The bedside tables are very simple.
I used a heart wood cut out and glued it to a spool.
Once they were painted they all matched quite well.
The piece above the bed is a cameo.
It kept falling off the wall because of it’s curved back,
so I had to first glue it to a piece of wood.
The wood is a punch out from an octagonal window from one of our other houses.

The marble base under the statue is a candlestick.
I painted it white and then with a dry black brush
made strokes to give it a marble effect.

This is a close-up of the rug on the far side of the bed.
I cut some of the pattern from the bedspread fabric
and glued it to a piece of black velvet.

The gentlemen’s chest has some of the pieces
of a Chrisbon bedroom accessory set.
I added a small piece of a brown pipe cleaner
to give the brush a more realistic effect.
The mirror was set into a scrap piece, again left over from another kit.
For a base I used the grooved piece from a stair rail.

The ladies dresser has a collection of perfume bottles from Melissa and Doug.
The jewelry is just a mix of a pearl necklace, a gold chain, pearl earrings etc.
The other pieces also came from the Chrisbon accessories.
The little tray holds a manicure set.  I painted the tips silver to simulate a file, etc.
The hairbrush also has a piece of a pipe cleaner to give a bristle effect.
I had a small cameo that fitted the top of the mirror perfectly.
I made it look like an heirloom piece.

 The Young Lady’s Bedroom

This room reflects a young lady’s love for Elvis and Eddie Miles.
Eddie, the best Elvis Tribute Artist, continues to keep Elvis’ music alive.
http://www.eddiemileseta.com/   Elvis stands in his black leather,
but the posters are of Eddie.
A rocking horse, a fond childhood memory still is a part of the décor
as is the puppy on the couch.
Most of this furniture is featured in our furniture categories listed on our home page.

Here is a good shot of the Eddie poster above the bed and the Elvis figure.
The lamp is made from beads and a cut off creamer container.

I love the ledge around the room that was created when the mansard was added.
It is the perfect place for books and knick-knacks.
There are more posters of Eddie Miles.

The chest top has more of the Chrisbon accessories,
a box of chocolates and a vase of flowers from an admirer.

The Sewing Room

 This is the sewing room.
Looking into the room you can see how the ledge was again utilized.
There is a crocheted afghan on the back of the couch.
The couch is a refurbished DT piece.
The pink roses on the wall actually were added
to conceal a space where the tower did not fit flush.

This shot shows some fabric, patterns, yarn and a pattern ready for cutting.
The patterns are downloads from the Internet.
The butterflies on the wall are cross stitched pieces glued to a small piece of wood.
A gold trim is glued to the edges to give it a finished look.
The appliqué is also glued to a piece of wood to create a plaque.
The same gold trim finishes the edge.

You can see the scissors on the table with the pattern.
I used 2 piece of wire, made a circle on one end
and flattened the blade portion with a hammer.
Then I glued one piece over the other to give it a realistic scissor effect.
There is also a spool of thread and some buttons on the sewing machine.
A small quilted hanging fills the space over the sewing machine.
